C&D East 113. Pleasant breezes West and fine weather throughout. At 8pm Portland Light House NWbW½W. Sick List 11. At 10am Beachy Head EbN¼N about 7 Leagues. At ¼ past 8am Signal for a Midshipmen. At 10pm the Needles Light NE at 11 NNE 3 Leagues. At 9am sent two men on board the Plantagenet as for Signal, Rob’t Middlemast & William Morrell. AM Washed the Gun Deck. At 11 a boat from the Pluto came on board and pressed three men (George Lea, John Tiffen and William Tully). At Noon Beachy Head E¾N dist 4 Leagues. Lat (obs) 50.33 North. JN. Whyte [signed]

Wednesday August 8th 1804.
C&D East 46, First part fresh breezes west and clear weather. At 6pm Beachy Head EbN½N. Extremes f the Land to the Westward NNW. At ½ past 2am saw Dungeness Light House bearing NEbE, at 4 NEbN at 5 NEbE½E. dist 4 leagues. Commodore East 2 miles. At 7am Shortened Sail furled the courses and Main Top Sail, struck the Top Gallant Yards and Masts. At 9 hove too with her head to the Southward. At ½ past 9 furled the Fore and Main Top Sails. At 10 bore up and run onto the Downs. Hard Gales and Rain with very thick weather. At ½ past 10 brought up on the Weather side[?] in 7 fms Water with the Best Bower, wore away two thirds of a Cable. Bearings when at Anchor Kings Down W½N, Walmer Castle NW½W, Deal Town NbE. NB At 3pm Mr Etheridge Pilot came on board and took charge of the Ship. Thursday August 9th 1804.
Pleasant breezes from WSW with fine weather throughout. At 10am Lieut. And 20 men from the Plantagenet came on board to assist working the Ship. At 11 Weighed run up abreast of Deal Town and came to an anchor with the Best Bower in 10 fms. Deal Castle WbS The South Foreland Light SWbS At 5pm Ticket Men came on board when the Plantagenet [men] were removed. At 6 Weighed and run farther up, at 8 Brought up with the Best Bower in 9 fms. Friday August 10th 1804.
Strong Gales for the first part from the SW, at 5am Double Reefed the Top Sail & Weighed. Middle hard Squalls. At Noon in 3rd Reefs, Employed working Ship, at 2pm out 3rd Reefs, more moderate from the West, at 4pm Brought up with the Best Bower in 12 fms Water. Fresh breezes & Squally from the WSW, at 10am Weighed & worked up the River, at 2am passed the Nore. At 5 came to an anchor with the Best Bower in 9 fms Water, at Chapman Head, latter part Strong breezes & Squally. C. Barnard [signed]
Sunday August 12th 1804.
First part light breezes from the SW with Rain at 3am Weighed & dropped up about ¼ mile when we brought up, at 11 wind WbS Weighed & made Sail. PM hard Squalls with Rain, double Reefed the Top Sail. At 4pm carried away the Cross Jack Yard in a heavy Squall. At 5 came to an Anchor off the Hope Point with the Best Bower got up an old sprung Main Top Sail Yard for a Cross Jack Yard latter part fresh breezes. C. Barnard [signed]
Monday August 13th 1804.
First part moderate breezes from the West & fine weather, middle hard Squalls & Rain from the SW. At 11am Weighed & made Sail & at 2 passed Gravesend at ½ past 2 Mr Lockwood River Pilot came on board & took charge of the Ship & ran her up to Long Reach.
